Although the UK has already introduced many of the VAT invoicing rules required by EU Council Directive 2010/45/EU (see www.lexisurl.com/EUdirective) there are some minor changes to VAT regulations required to be made by 1 January 2013 to fully implement the Directive. Among the changes being made is the removal of numerous conditions previously imposed by HMRC for electronic invoicing and EDI. Provided the customer agrees to electronic invoices and a business can ensure the ‘authenticity of origin’ and the ‘integrity of content’ of the e-invoice businesses can determine whichever method of electronic invoicing is best suited to their circumstances.
