The ‘Working Together’ process has the potential to benefit agents, HMRC and the general taxpaying public, said Derek Allen, Director of Tax at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland. ‘I have been surprised and disappointed at the apathy I have encountered from ICAS members,’ he said, writing in the May 2011 issue of Working Together. ‘Getting involved at a local level offers the opportunity to learn at an early date about known problems and timescales for solutions.’
Allen added: 'It’s been a pleasant surprise to work with HMRC staff involved in WT and to recognise their sincere commitment and enthusiasm for supporting WT.'
The May issue includes articles on open and closed issues from the National Working Together issues register; how agents helped to develop new partnership registration forms; and how self assessment and PAYE employee post is dealt with.
