Public tax transparency rules for multinationals 

 
On 12 April the EU Commission announced proposals that would require multinationals operating in the EU to publish information on where profits are made and tax is paid on a country by country basis. The rules would apply to multinationals with global revenues exceeding €750m a year and to non-EU multinationals doing business in Europe. The main focus of what seem to be crowd pleasing measures is to give the public the information needed to scrutinise the tax behaviour of multinationals. 
 
The measures would be introduced by amending the EU Accounting Directive to require the publication of an annual report disclosing profit and tax accrued in each member state on a country by country basis....
