Tax thresholds and inflation since 1975

The government has set out the top rate of tax on personal income, and details of the tax thresholds adjusted for inflation, for the years 1975/76 to 2010/11. This is an extract from the table provided in a House of Lords written answer:

Notes:

  1. Single/basic, non-aged personal allowance for a man with no children
  2. From 2010/11 the highest rate of tax is the additional rate of 50%. The higher rate of tax at 40% is due on taxable incomes exceeding £37,400.
