HMRC has released three more toolkits providing guidance on the types of error that HMRC frequently sees in tax returns.
The new toolkits deal with VAT partial exemption; VAT output tax; and NICs and statutory payments. There are now 15 toolkits, and HMRC has said they will be updated at least annually.
‘Our free toolkits have been well received by agents because we are being proactive in talking to them about the common risks and errors we find in returns,’ said Brian Redford, acting director of HMRC’s Business Customer Unit.
‘Since the release of the first toolkits last year, there have been over 67,000 downloads. The toolkits were developed with the help of the agent community and their use is entirely voluntary but they set out the steps that can be taken to reduce errors.’
