HMRC have updated their guidance, ‘What will happen if you do not pay your tax bill’, to add a section on how to complain about a debt collection agency which HMRC have engaged to recover a payment. Complaints can be made either through the debt collection agency itself, or via HMRC using the relevant online complaint form. The HMRC service is also available for objections to a debt collection agency’s handling of a case, including where the outcome of a complaint already raised with the agency is not satisfactory.
