EU VAT rates and compliance data

Sarah Halsted provides your handy guide to EU VAT data

Note: The information is correct at the date of going to press but several countries including the UK are already planning further increases to their standard VAT rates in 2011. These can be summarised as follows:

  • UK from 17.5% to 20% on 4 January 2011.
  • Poland  from 22% to 23% in 2011 (no precise date announced);
  • Slovakia from 19% to 20% on 1 January 2011
In addition Portugal has announced that there will be a further increase to its standard rate in 2011 but has yet to confirm the precise rate or implementation date.

Estonia will adopt the Euro as its national currency with effect from 1 January 2011 and will amend its VAT registration and other thresholds to Euro values from that date.
