What were they?
 
The original tax case from which the name derived was Hancock v General Reversionary and Investment Co Ltd 7 TC 358 in 1919. That case concerned the tax relief on the cost of purchasing an annuity to replace a pension which was already being paid by the employer.
 
Under later developments Hancock Annuities were normally secured by a single premium payment as a means of providing benefits (pension and/or lump sum) for an employee...
